Koch endorses Ulrich; Queens Machine loses mind

Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, a Democrat, is backing newly elected City Council Member Eric Ulrich, a Republican, for re-election this fall. Koch’s endorsement is just the latest sign that Ulrich is building a broad coalition of support for his re-election campaign.

As Mayor, Ed Koch is credited with restoring fiscal stability to the Big Apple, leading the city from the edge of bankruptcy in 1978 to a substantial budget surplus in 1983. He was elected to serve three terms in office (1978-1989), and is widely viewed as one of New York’s foremost statesman.

“I believe that the City Council best represents the people when it has strong bi-partisan leadership. I support Eric Ulrich because I think he is a superb public servant who will best represent his district during these uncertain times,” stated Koch.

After this press release was made public, the members of the Queens Machine reportedly went nuts. Even the ones that I consider to be relatively cool, calm and collected became unnerved, according to a source at City Hall. I don't know why. They don't seem to mind when their members cross party lines to endorse Bloomberg...

Best wishes to the former mayor on a speedy recovery from heart surgery.

That is how you obtain and retain power--make people work for your support. We New Yorkers are such reflexive Democrats that the party is bending us over and r@p#ng us. That explains the present situation in Albany with crazy as a shithouse Monster Rat and the geographically-challenged carpetbagger Espada.

Anything that upsets the Crowley run machine is welcome.

I'll bet that Toby crapped her body weight all over the Senate chamber floor!

Please don't confuse Koch with a democrat, please.

He endorses every republican he can with a few exceptions ever since the Dem bosses backed Dinkins over him decades ago.

Good. I'm glad someone from outside Queens Boro Hall is supporting a Queens candidate. Enough of the dictatorship rule that Queens is infamous for. Stop the machine! Get rid of them all--NOW!

The endorsement of a cranky old has been - wow - I'm just gonna run right out and support this Ulrich dude. Not!

You forget that Monserrate is in the Senate thanks to Joe Crowley and the County Machine. They supported Monserrate over John Sabini (the incumbent) for the 13SD in 2008.
They should be more upset about their flip flopping Monserrate than Koch's endorsement of Ulrich.

Nobody in the Dems cares about Kock endorsing a Repub. He does it regularly and routinely these days. Like who really cares but this kid.

Another great post to make me laugh.
This pic is soooo funny, looks more like a wedding photo.
Have a great day.

I wonder where Eric and Koch's hands are? HMMMMM, very friendly.

Why do we have to look at whether a Democrat endorses a Republican or vice versa. Whatever happened to hiring the right person for the job regardless of party.

Ulrich is a "right " person and the wrong person for Councilman. Koch and him inhabit the same closet.

Anything that upsets the Reich-run party machine is ok by me.

Ed looks like he's feeling Ulrich's firm young man ass. Urlich looks like he's feeling Ed's tired old man ass. Great photo for Pride Week!
