Pedestrian struck and dragged crosstown

From Newsday:

Police are questioning a driver in Brighton Beach after it was discovered he had struck a pedestrian -- 17 miles away, near Shea Stadium -- and unknowingly dragged him into Brooklyn.

The bizarre incident started in Corona at about 6:15 a.m. when the driver of a sport utility vehicle called 911 to report he believed he had just struck someone at 51st Avenue and 108th Street.

Officers who responded found no evidence of an accident, but about 7 a.m. a pedestrian in Brighton Beach saw a dead man under a 1998 Chevy minivan. The passerby told the driver to stop, and police were called.

When officers were dispatched to the area of Neptune Avenue and Brighton 10th Terrace, they found the dead man under the van, police said.

Oh come on they didn't know. How oblivious could you be! 17 miles and you didn't know someone/something was under your car? I am not saying you knew it was a person or anything but you think they would hear something. If you are that oblivious then you need to have your license taken away forever!

And it's always something with trucks, buses or minivans... I hate everyone of these vehicles.

faster:

Sometimes drivers of minivans/suvs can be oblivious or indifferent to all other drivers. O maybe the driver was someone who is elderly.

NEW RECORD

Not a surprise with the constant speeding, reckless lane changing, and police not caring how people drive at all 95% of the time. Very sad indeed.

A trick out van with the ghetto blaster stereo going full tilt you would be lucky to hear a atomic bomb blast.

Besides he didn't want to be late to work and risk getting fired. Finding a new job is hard.

What kind of vehicle was it? An SUV?? What a shocker!

For some reason blind people drive SUV's. I have nearly been hit several times by SUV drivers who looked sideways and drove forward, with me directly in front of the vehicle crossing with a green light.

Have been brushed by an SUV with tinted windows, driver just"didn't see me." He was astonished to learn that some drivers park head out so that they can see pedestrians, etc.

I don't know if visibility in these vehicles is unusually bad or if people who drive them feel impervious to death.

No George Rand, or Wade to express concern for this person? Of course not! There only capable of low level anger, selfishness, and rude remarks.

I'm sorry, but where does it dictate that a regular commenter on this blog must pass a remark on every post? And who are you to pass judgment on people you don't know? Based on anonymous blog comments? You're worse than they are.

He knew something was wrong.
If you read the news IN ADDITION TO this blog, you would know that. The driver of the van heard *something* and twice got out to check... probably tires, muffler, the usual suspects. But who would ever suspect there's a BODY snagged in the frame, and crawl under the van to inspect?

We will never know when the poor victim died....he or she may have very well survived the initial hit, and then been dragged to death....too sad for words.
