I am so sadden to hear what happened. I grew up in one of the homes 91-14 96th st. I felt sad when we sold the house, but to know that it is now gone forever really saddens me.

I live in the block next to these homes. I am so sorry for these families. I will pray for them.

A dozen homes in a row were destroyed. Families and neighbors were/are devastated! The inferno lasted for about six hours. Heavy blowing smoke was evident for miles throughout southern Queens; FDNY (Queens and Brooklyn) apparatus and emergency vehicles were deployed for blocks around; media presence was heavy -- and yet newspaper coverage of this disaster was minimal, and practically ABSENT from our weekly community zines ("Forum, Chronicle, etc."). The tragic plane crash near Buffalo, NY airport blew our Woodside inferno OFF THE PAGES. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting to read more about this epic event... The silence is DEAFENING!

Actually, it was the front page story in both editions of the Forum, and they have an additional photo gallery.
