$30 MIL BET RING BUSTED

By KYLE MURPHY, NY Post

Ten men from Queens and Long Island have been busted in a sports-betting ring believed to have raked in more than $30 million over the last five years, authorities announced yesterday.

The arrests were made Monday, when Nassau County detectives raided the ring's wire room in College Point, Queens, as well as the homes of several ring members, authorities said.

Two of the 12 suspected ring members are still at large.

"It never ceases to amaze me the extent to which people will go to avoid an honest day's work," said Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice.

The alleged leaders of the ring were identified as Stephen Rozich, 55, of Douglaston, Queens, and his brother, Daniel, 52, of Little Neck. Authorities said the siblings had been in the sports-betting business for 25 years.

They and the other defendants were charged with promoting gambling, and face up to four years behind bars.
