Richmond Hill Republican Club being redone

According to Lost in the Ozone, the Richmond Hill Republican Club is being demo'ed. I checked the permits, and it is, but only the interior. As you are aware, the exterior is landmarked. From the permit:

"Pre-construction interior cleanout, bracing of ext. walls of exist. commercial bldg. Interior demo. & removal of partially collapsed roof. Demo. to consist of removal of all partitions, roof and floor joist, interior bearing walls, cellar slab. Installation of new structural steel framing."

Let's hope this is done correctly and there is a good result.

Wow the condition of Republican Party headquarters in Richmond Hills building pretty much mirrors the condition of the Republican party in Queens County.

Well, it's about time !

Maybe the Serph was up
and got things movin' in a good
Republican manner(heh, heh).

No, you can't use
it for your private office.

That's the kinda stuff that got "Pinky" in trouble.

It's not gone yet, "Lost in the Ozone". Hopefully everything goes okay. They've been working on it for about two weeks now.

Whoever posted it was being demo'd is incorrect. we have been following every move....hey everyone...this is untrue. the building is being GUTTED and the exterior is being preserved..we have followed this interior demo since the minute it started..the DOB, LPC< DOT and CB9 as well as Katz's office have been on site....what is being done is proper..the building lay unoccupied with no care for 25 years..the walls, floors and roof were waterlogged, collapsed and there was nothing left. the interior was gutted..the exterior (look at the permits)
is being preserved..i have been in the building
a few times and the demo person is more than cooperative...altho he was not happy by all the agency visits we insisted on..., and he was also helpful saved us anything historical he came across..we took most of it out 10 years ago.....
please do not jump the gun...
i have diligintley worked on this building for 10 years..making sure it was boarded up..doing the LPC report with carl ballenas and ivan mrakovcic....i attended EVERY court date for the last 5 years..and believe me...there were many..and cried at the last one where it was auctioned off...i go by there everyday....and am watching that building and believe me..it will look like it originally did..exactly 100 years ago....
there are more eyes on this building than
you can believe...

My sister has pictures of Ronald Reagan making a campaign stop in 1980 in front of that building.

Good for you, Nancy, but if this is what is required, then there are some very very big problems in community preservation.

One should not be joined at the hip with a piece of property to save it.

Why doesn't preservation do something about this instead of just blindly accepting it?

unfortunately..NOTHING in our neighborhoods is monitored if we don't..that goes for any construction or development....we all have to be the watchdogs...our representatives do not give a crap of what happens here..it is so split up by city council members and assembly...no one feels the need to help in this area. i guess nt enough votes.
i am sure it is the same in all the other neighborhoods...without
the local people caring about their neighborhoods, there would be more destruction. don't forget..we all have jobs, families and obligations..and do the preservation with our hearts..not with paychecks and we sacrifice precious time to preserve our heritage. we volunteer and do the best we can. its hard fighting city hall..but we try.

This is bullshit - we pay taxes for the city to serve OUR needs. Try doing something as simple as letting a parking meter run out and see how effiecent the city can be.

The problem is we ACCEPT this and do not demand the preservation community DO SOMETHING to change this.

We all have lives and we all pay taxes. I am not about to run up and down the street begging a garbage truck to pick up my trash, and there is no reason why I need to do the same to stop some jerk from destroying my block with development.

it is bullshit, buddy
but that is the way it is.
we do not ACCEPT this and that is why we have to monitor and complain all the time.
half the time the garbage does not get picked up as well...or the streets cleaned, trees pruned, sewers unclogged....
it is inept city agencies and it is so deep nothing is going to change that in our life time.

In all honesty no one really likes Republicans anyway. So why bother?
